Fruits of Repentance

Let’s talk about generational curses – Many have adopted this mentality that repeated sinful acts and conducts are justified by “generational curses” where many people cannot break a bad habit or addictions because it has been passed on from generation to generation. I do agree that upbringing can contribute to your development as you grow into adulthood. However, there is a point in which you must make a choice whether to walk away from sin or just stay in the vicious cycle that will only lead you to a bad outcome. We must learn to take accountability for our own actions and decisions. We must accept that a lot of troubles are consequences of decisions and actions we have made.  

If in fact, we are bonded by generational curses as many would make you believe – then this would mean that the death of Jesus Christ is null and void. It is through His sacrifice we are redeemed. It is through the blood of Christ we are made new:

Ephesians 4:22-24 “that, regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, 23 and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], 24 and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].”

2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].”

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

Here is the harsh reality – many would justify their actions and decisions using the excuse that they are incapable of walking away from sin because they are bonded by generational curses. However, the moment we surrender our hearts, mind, and life to Christ there is evidence of transformation through true repentance:

Matthew 3:8 says “So produce fruit that is consistent with repentance

 [demonstrating new behavior that proves a change of heart, and a conscious decision to turn away from sin];….” (amplified bible)

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that there will not be struggles and hardships in this walk with Christ but there must be a willingness to do everything possible to walk away from sin out of genuine and sincere desire to serve Christ whole heartedly. We must understand that true repentance is the key to true transformation.

Hablemos de maldiciones generacionales: muchos han adoptado esta mentalidad de que los actos y conductas pecaminosos repetidos se justifican mediante “maldiciones generacionales” donde muchas personas no pueden romper con un mal hábito o adicciones porque se han transmitido de generación en generación. Estoy de acuerdo en la crianza o el pasado puede contribuir al desarrollo a medida que llegas a la edad adulta. Sin embargo, hay un punto en el que debes elegir entre alejarte del pecado o simplemente permanecer en el círculo vicioso que sólo te llevará a un mal resultado. Debemos aprender a responsabilizarnos de nuestras propias acciones y decisiones. Debemos aceptar que muchos problemas son consecuencias de decisiones y acciones que hemos tomado. 

Si acaso sea verdad que estamos atados por maldiciones generacionales como muchos te harían creer, entonces esto significaría que la muerte de Jesucristo es nula. Es a través de Su sacrificio que somos redimidos. Es por la sangre de Cristo que somos hechos nuevos:

Efesios 4:22-24 “para que, en cuanto a vuestra anterior manera de vivir, os despojéis de vuestro viejo yo [descartad completamente vuestra antigua naturaleza], el cual se está corrompiendo por los deseos engañosos, 23 y os renovéis continuamente en el espíritu de vuestra mente [ teniendo una actitud mental y espiritual fresca e inmaculada], 24 y revestirnos del nuevo yo [la naturaleza regenerada y renovada], creado a la imagen de Dios, [divino] en la justicia y santidad de la verdad [vivir de una manera que exprese a Dios tu gratitud por tu salvación]”.

2 Corintios 5:17: “De modo que si alguno está en Cristo [es decir, injertado, unido a Él por la fe en Él como Salvador], nueva criatura es [renacido y renovado por el Espíritu Santo]; las cosas viejas [la anterior condición moral y espiritual] han pasado. He aquí, han llegado cosas nuevas [porque el despertar espiritual trae una nueva vida]”.

Gálatas 2:20 “Con Cristo estoy juntamente crucificado [es decir, en Él he participado de Su crucifixión]; Ya no soy yo quien vive, sino que Cristo vive en mí. La vida que ahora vivo en el cuerpo la vivo por fe [adhiriéndose, apoyándose y confiando completamente] en el Hijo de Dios, quien me amó y se entregó a sí mismo por mí”.

Aquí está la dura realidad: muchos justificarían sus acciones y decisiones con la excusa de que son incapaces de alejarse del pecado porque están atados por maldiciones generacionales. Sin embargo, en el momento en que entregamos nuestro corazón, mente y vida a Cristo, hay evidencia de transformación a través del verdadero arrepentimiento:

Mateo 3:8 dice: “Producid, pues, frutos que sean consistentes con el arrepentimiento”.

 [demostrar un nuevo comportamiento que demuestra un cambio de corazón y una decisión consciente de alejarse del pecado];…” (biblia amplificada)

No me malinterpretes, no estoy diciendo que no habrá luchas y dificultades en este caminar con Cristo pero debe haber la disposicion de hacer todo lo posible para alejarse del pecado con un deseo genuino y sincero de servir a Cristo de todo corazón. . Debemos entender que el verdadero arrepentimiento es la clave para la verdadera transformación.
